‘Ethnomusicology: History, Theory and Practice’ and The Third International Competition for students’ folklore ensembles ‘Vselistvennii Venok’ (‘Leafy Crown’)

On the May 16-19, 2016 St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory holds
The Fifth International Scientific and Practical Conference for graduate and undergraduate students titled “Ethnomusicology: history, theory and practice” as well as The Third International Competition for students’ folklore ensembles titled “Vselistvennii Venok” (“Leafy Crown”). All the events will be dedicated to the 80th anniversary of prof. Anatoly M. Mekhnetsov’s birth, to the 40th anniversary of conservatory’s Folklore ensemble establishment and to the 25th anniversary of Center for Folklore and Ethnography at St. Petersburg Conservatory foundation.

The events are competitive and the laureates will be awarded diplomas of I, II and III degrees.

Sample topics for conference papers are: history of folklore study; study of folk music genres and specifics of their style; methods of vocal, instrumental and dance folk traditions analysis; the role of folklore in the modern educational process and concert practice, etc.

Students’ folklore ensembles competition includes opening ceremony, competition concerts, gala concert, master classes and other creative meetings, dedicated to the folklore performance of Russian and foreign countries’ folk traditions.

The deadline for applications to participate in the conference and competition is
the 1
st of March, 2016.

The organizing committee will search for the opportunity to cover fees for staying at guest rooms of Conservatory’s hostel (ul. Doblesti, d. 22). Travel expenses due to the sending party.
