Arvo Pärt: Soundtrack of an Age

Arvo Pärt: Soundtrack of an Age

Arvo Pärt’s transcendent music is one of the defining soundworlds of the last thirty years.  Through media, concerts and recordings his work has crossed boundaries of religion, race and culture and established itself as one of the most popular and recognisable features of the contemporary musical landscape.  On September 24-5, 2010, the Southbank centre, and the Royal Academy of Music will present a conference in celebration of Arvo Pärt’s 75th Birthday. Papers of 20 minutes duration are invited on aspects of Pärt’s tintinnabuli works. They should be interdisciplinary with a focus on musical analysis, hermeneutics, performance, media studies, theology and spirituality.  Please submit proposals of not more than 250 words to the conference organiser Dr Robert Sholl r.sholl@ram.ac.uk by April 31, 2010.
