The Victorians and America

The Annual Victorian Literature & Culture Conference, 
Department of English & Drama

University College Worcester, UK

Saturday, 28th April 2001, 9.30 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.


A one-day conference considering the relationship between British and
American writers, or other cultural aspects of British-American exchange,
during the Victorian period.  Papers are invited from a wide range of
literary and cultural studies of the period, and might consider such
themes as the portrayal of America in British Victorian culture; the
portrayal of Britain in American 19th-Century culture; literary influences
and relationships; British writers or artists in America; American writers
or artists in Britain; British and American newspapers and periodicals;
British and American fashions.


Proposals of not more than 500 words, for a 30-minute paper, should be
sent by 15th January 2001 to
