CALL FOR PAPERS
In collaboration with the Hungarian Society of Musicologists the Balatonföldvár Festival will host the sixth Conference on 20th Century Music from 21 to 23 June 2001. For the first time, papers will be considered from outside Hungary: the focal theme will be the music of Kurtág.
The Conference will be held at the Cultural Centre in Balatonföldvár, on the shores of Lake Balaton in South West Hungary, easily accessible from Budapest. Research papers will be presented in the mornings while concerts and open rehearsals will take place in the evenings and afternoons.
The Programme Committee (Rachel Beckles Willson, Zoltán Farkas, Péter Halász and András Wilheim) invites proposals for papers on any aspect of Kurtág's music. Individual papers may last up to thirty minutes. Proposals for round tables or study sessions up to two hours long are also welcome. Scholars presenting research will be provided with Bed and Breakfast accommodation and tickets for all concerts throughout the festival. It is anticipated that a selection of papers will be published after the conference.
Abstracts (200 words) should be submitted to Péter Halász or Rachel Beckles Willson at the addresses below by 1 November 2000, as should proposals for round tables/study sessions (500 words). All submissions should be made in English, which will be the official language of the conference. The programme will be announced in January 2001. Further information can be obtained from Rachel Beckles Willson (R.BecklesWillson@bris.ac.uk) or Péter Halász (firstname.lastname@example.org).
