Call for Papers and Compositions The Royal College of Music is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the 35th RMA Research Students' Conference from the afternoon of Monday 17 December 2001 until lunchtime on Thursday 20 December 2001. Proposals (limited to one per person) are invited for individual papers or lecture-recitals. These may address any musical subject or any interdisciplinary topic with a clearly defined relationship to music, such as music and performance, music and psychology, music for screen, music in education, the significance of music in literature, or the iconography of music. Short compositions are also invited for workshop and possible concert performance. Papers Papers should be around 20 minutes in duration (leaving 10 minutes for questions and discussion); lecture-recitals may be around 35 minutes in duration. (As a guideline, when preparing papers, 110 words should be allowed per minute). Please submit (preferably by email) an abstract of no more than 150 words with your name, affiliation, and the title of your paper, to Charles Wiffen (email: email@example.com). Speakers are asked to supply approximately 30 copies of handouts and to inform the organisers of any equipment they may require (such as audio equipment, overhead projector, or data projector). Proposals for roundtables are welcomed. Compositions Works of no more than 6 minutes in length are invited for the following ensemble: clarinet, violin, cello and piano. Works will be selected by members of the RCM Composition faculty for workshops to be led by Julian Anderson (Head of Composition, RCM). At least one work will be included in a concert during the conference by one of the RCM's ensembles in residence.
