Society for Ethnomusicology, Northeast Chapter
2003 Conference and Call for Papers

The Northeast Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology invites students,
teachers, and devotees of ethnomusicology to submit abstracts for its annual
meeting to be held on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Brookline Music School in
Brookline, Massachusetts (on the Boston border).

Proposals for individual papers as well as panel discussions are welcome.
Students and scholars outside of music departments who consider their studies
relevant to ethnomusicological discussions are encouraged to participate.

Graduate student papers will be considered for the James T. Koetting Memorial
Prize, established in 1985 by the Northeast Chapter of the Society for
Ethnomusicology as an award for an outstanding paper by a graduate student. Jim
Koetting (1939-1984) was a respected ethnomusicologist whose main area of research
was in African music. He was a member of the faculty at Brown University where he
was an Associate Professor. This award honors his memory as a distinguished
teacher, scholar, musician, and colleague.

An abstract (250 words maximum), together with anticipated a/v requirements,
should be sent by March 21, 2003 to Local Arrangements Chair, Stephen Pixley
(Ph.D. candidate, Wesleyan University). Email submissions will be accepted as
well.
