Proposed seminar for American Comparative Literature Association 4-6 April 2003 meeting in North San Diego County International Modernism Comparative approaches to the literature and arts of modernism. Papers are invited for a twelve-person seminar, meeting for two hours on each of three consecutive days, to discuss modernism in comparative perspective at the ACLA conference, April 4-6, 2003, at California State University at San Marcos. In keeping with the conference theme of "crossing over," the seminar will explore the interactions among various forms of modernism as they cross national borders. Possible topics include: European vs. Anglo-American modernisms; international influence of avant-garde movements; transformations of modernism in different cultural contexts; interactions between literary movements and those in other arts; nineteenth-century precursors to modernism; late or post-modernism; postcolonial responses to modernism.
