INCS: INTERDISCIPLINARY NINETEENTH-CENTURY STUDIES and LONDON CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME PRESENT NINETEENTH-CENTURY WORLDS: LOCAL / GLOBAL July 10-12, 2003 An Interdisciplinary Conference To Be Held In London, UK London Centre of The University of Notre Dame Trafalgar Square Conference Website: www.nd.edu/~incs KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Jane Rendall, Department of History, University of York Paper or panel proposals are invited on any aspect of the construction of "worlds" (cultural, epistemological, scientific, discursive, geopolitical) in the nineteenth century. INCS is an association of scholars in History, Women's Studies, Art History, Anthropology, Science Studies, Philosophy, various literatures, and other disciplines devoted to the interdisciplinary exploration of nineteenth-century culture and its relation to our contemporary world. Possible proposal topics might include but are not limited to: -nationalisms -histories of the world -regional culture -worlds of knowledge -cartography -population migrations -imperial politics -microscopic worlds -globalization -global commerce -travel writing -"contact zones" -partitioned worlds -aesthetic worlds -museums & exhibitions -gendered worlds Discussions and paper presentations will be in English.
