Renaissance Lyon - a Cultural Center

Situated at the crossroads of trading routes, endowed with two navigable
rivers that facilitate contact with England, the Mediterranean, the
Netherlands, and the Levant, Lyon becomes a commercial, intellectual, and
international center in the first part of the sixteenth century. How
Northern and Italian humanism meet here in order to foster a climate
favorable for multilingual interaction, for the printing presses, and for
various salons is the topic of the panel.

Abstracts are invited on any aspect of cultural life in this Renaissance
city. Please reply to Dorothea Heitsch at dbheit@ship.edu no later than
May 9.
