Renaissance Society of America Annual Meeting,
New York, March 25-27, 2004

Abstracts are invited for papers on physical and visual characteristics of books
printed before 1700. Papers might (but need not) focus on illustrations and
ornaments in relation to printing-house practices or books' contents; title-page
iconography, mise-en-page, and their relation to other visual arts; paratexts
mediating between books, patrons, and readers; printed anthologies, sammelbands,
and other collected works.

Please submit a 150-word abstract, with a brief CV (one page), by *May 1st, 2003.*
Acceptances will be e-mailed before mid-May. Anyone whose proposal is accepted is
required to be a member of RSA at the time of registration for the New York
