Leeds International Jazz Conference: 2 - 4 April 2004
Call for Papers
The annual Leeds International Jazz Conference welcomes delegates from around the
world to participate in a range of research presentations, practical sessions,
workshops and performances. The 2004 conference will feature contributions from a
range of jazz professionals and, as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, the
event includes a partnership with the International Association of Jazz Educators
(IAJE). The programme includes keynote presentations from Howard Mandel (President
of the Jazz Journalists Association) and the internationally acclaimed jazz
saxophonist, composer and bandleader, Bob Mintzer.
Proposals are invited for papers on any area of jazz research, with special
consideration being given to work focusing on the main conference theme: Jazz on
Record. The theme explores both the significance of journalism in the documenting of
jazz history and the relationship between jazz criticism and the recording industry.
Individual presentations should be no more than twenty minutes in duration.
Proposals should take the form of a title followed by an abstract of not more than
200 words. Deadline for submission is Friday 13 February 2004. Decisions will be
notified by 20 February 2004.
