Brussels, April 15th 2004

The creation of Francesco Cavalli's Eliogabalo at La Monnaie on April 27th promises
to be an extraordinary experience, for Eliogabalo has never been performed on stage,
apart from one exception, and this in spite of its exceptional, lyrical and dramatic
qualities. For this reason director Vincent Boussard and costume designer Christian
Lacroix renewed their co-operation with La Monnaie. The Belgian Vincent Lemaire
designed the set, while René Jacobs will conduct Cavalli's score in a revised
orchestration of his one.

La Monnaie is seizing this opportunity to organize a colloquium about Cavalli and the
Venetian opera of the seventeenth century. The various lectures take place on
Saturday May 1st. We look forward to welcoming you.
