CALL FOR PAPERS

Peter Maxwell Davies at 70

On the weekend of 15-17 October 2004, Canterbury Christ Church University College
will be celebrating Sir Peter Maxwell Davies's 70th birthday. Max has an ongoing
relationship with the Department of Music and the Maggini Quartet for the realization
of his Naxos Quartet series. The weekend will include an open rehearsal of his
latest (5th) String Quartet, as well as a performance of his 4th Quartet, a lecture
and a key-note talk given by the composer himself. Other performances of Max's music
are also planned.

Additionally, a series of conference papers is planned over Saturday 16th and Sunday
17th October, to be incorporated within and provide a context for the performances of
Max's music. Submissions for possible papers are invited on any aspect of the
composer's life and music. These might be on (but are not limited to) his chamber
music series, music and patronage, the symphonies and concertos, the influence of
place and time, music and theatre, etc. Suggestions for round-table discussions or
presentations involving performances are also welcomed, as are papers dealing with
the broader contexts within which Max's work has evolved.

Potential contributors are invited to submit abstracts of up to 300 words to the
conference organiser, Eva Mantzourani, preferably by email and without attachments,
at:
	e.mantzourani@canterbury.ac.uk

or by post to:
