Music and Cultural Politics

The University of Chicago's Ethnoise! Ethnomusicology Workshop invites
submissions for its 4th annual conference, "Music and Cultural Politics".  
We encourage papers from those working in music, anthropology, folklore,
area studies, and related fields.  "Music and Cultural Politics" can be
considered to include a wide variety of issues, such as:

Music and Cultural Policy
Music and Violence
Music and the Media
The Commodification of Culture
Music and Nationalism
The Politicization of Cultural and Ethnic Heritage
Music and Human Rights
Music History/Historicism
Music Education

Of course, other related topics will be considered. Presentations should
be limited to 20 minutes, with 10 minutes allowed for questions.


Paper abstracts must not exceed 500 words. Submissions via e-mail are
preferred. Electronic submissions will only be accepted in common
electronic formats (.doc, .rtf or .pdf).  Be sure to include relevant
information (name, contact info, institutional affiliation, title of
paper) in the e-mail but not on the abstract itself: this ensures
