Material Worlds

Graduate School of Arts and Humanities, The University of Glasgow
28-30 October 2005

This conference seeks to explore concepts of materiality and their
influence or application in the Arts and Humanities. It invites
considerations and interpretations of the relationship between the
cultural and material.

Some questions which have proved useful in thinking around the
conference are: Is there any such thing as non-cultural or
non-ideologically charged material? How have ideas surrounding
material and materiality informed debates between the arts and
sciences? How might cultural material be preserved or culture be used
to conserve material? The conference is designed to generate creative
and broad engagements with its title.

Cambridge Scholars Press has expressed an interest in publishing a
volume of selected papers from this conference
(www.cambridgescholarspress.com).
