Eastman Celebration of the Music of George Perle

Rochester, NY, 28 November 2005

The Eastman School of Music announces a "Celebration of the Music of
George Perle" to be held on Monday November 28th in Rochester, NY. The
celebration will consist of an afternoon session featuring talks on
the music and life of George Perle and an evening concert of Perle's
music, featuring pianist Michael Boriskin and others.

Afternoon Session

The afternoon session runs from 1:00 - 5:00 pm in Eastman's Howard
Hanson Hall. The session will include a lecture-demonstration by
Michael Boriskin on interpreting Perle's music at the keyboard, and
talks by Gretchen Foley (The University of Nebraska - Lincoln), Steven
Rosenhaus (New York University), Austin Gross (Eastman School of
Music), Michael Callahan (Eastman School of Music), David Schober
(Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College), Philip Stoecker
(Oberlin College), and Elliot Antokoletz (University of Texas at

Evening Concert

The evening concert is at 8:00 in Eastman's Kilbourn Hall. The program
will consist of the Wind Quintet no. 4 (1984, winner of the Pulitzer
Prize for music in 1986) and Windows of Order (String Quartet no. 8)  
(1988), played by Eastman student ensembles, a selection of songs from
the Thirteen Dickinson Songs (1978) by singer Eileen Strempel
(Syracuse University) and pianist Sylvie Beaudette (Eastman School of
Music), and a selection of piano music by New York-based pianist
Michael Boriskin.
