AMS South-Central Chapter Spring Meeting

Memphis, TN, March 2006

The annual meeting of the South-Central Chapter of the American
Musicological Society will take place on Friday and Saturday, March 24 and
25, 2006, on the campus of the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN. The
paper sessions and the Friday luncheon and business meeting will be held
in our new FedEx Technology Center.

Our Program Committee, chaired by David Haas and including Rachel Carlson
(UT), and Sarah Stoycos (Centre College), has assembled a fine group of
presentations on topics ranging from music at the court of Flanders in the
13th century to music for film and television. The meeting will also
include a tour of Sun Studio, the "birthplace of rock'n'roll" - just one
of the many fascinating and important musical-historical sites in the city
of Memphis.   The meeting coincides with the School of Music's annual
IMAGINE Festival of New Music, with concerts at the School of Music on 24
and 25 March. The festival will feature the music of Steven Mackey
(Princeton University) and Armando Luna (Mexico City).
