Call for Papers

Submission Deadline:      Friday, May 5, 2006

General:

The University of Tennessee School of Music and MENC proudly announce a
Call for Papers for the Sixth Biennial National Symposium on Multicultural
Music, to be held in Knoxville, Tennessee, October 11-14, 2006.  The
symposium welcomes submissions from all areas of music academic research
that relate to multicultural and ethnic aspects of music and music
education.  In addition to research papers, the symposium will accept
submissions for poster sessions.  For further information visit our

Selection Process:

In selecting poster sessions and research papers, the symposium committee
will consider the following: quality of presentation (clarity,
organization, feasibility); original contribution; and relevance to
symposium.  Notice of acceptance will be made by Friday, May 26, 2006.

Submission Procedures and Requirements:

1.                  By submitting a proposal the participant agrees to
register for the conference.

2.                  If the proposal is accepted the presenter will be
responsible for informing all participants of the specifics of the
symposium.

3.                  No honoraria will be paid.

4.                  Presenters should prepare a talk of 20 minutes in
length, and be prepared for a 10-minute question-and-answer session.

5.                  Submissions should include: five copies of an
anonymous proposal no more than 500 words in length; one copy of an
anonymous abstract of the proposal no more than 200 words in length; one
copy of a list of your audio/visual requirements; and one copy of a cover
letter including the title of the proposal, author's name, address, email,
and phone.

6.                  Submissions for poster sessions should not be 
anonymous, but should include proposal, abstract, cover letter, and a list
of participants.

Please note that all submissions should contain original research that has
not been previously published or presented at other conferences.  Hardcopy
submissions should be sent by May 5, 2006, to:
