Historical Evidence vs Current Taste: Archives, Research & the Performance of Classical & Romantic Music

This event will examine the nature and usefulness of different archives
and research methodologies relevant to the performance of historical
music. The keynote speaker will be Robert Philip, Open University.

Programme

Session 1: Performance Research - Using Archives to Inform Interpretation
(Contributions by Clive Brown, Rachel Cowgill and David Milsom, University
of Leeds)

Session 2: Keynote Address - Historical recordings and the shifting sands
of judgement (Robert Philip, Open University)

Session 3: Performance Research in Practice - Practical Application of
Performance Archives (with performance, discussion and presentation of a
number of performed extracts displaying different methodologies, with The
LUCHIP Ensemble on period instruments)

Session 4: Roundtable discussion 
(Chair: David Milsom, University of Leeds; Panel to include John Bryan,
University of Huddersfield; Robert Philip, Open University; John Potter,
University of York; Peter Holman & Clive Brown, University of Leeds)
