MACSEM Call for Papers:

MACSEM, The Mid Atlantic Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology,
invites the submission of proposals for papers and panels for the upcoming
MACSEM meeting to be held jointly with MAFA: The Mid Atlantic Folklife
Association, March 30-April 1, 2007 at The College of William and Mary in
Williamsburg, Virginia.

We invite the submission of abstracts and panel proposals on the following
themes as well as on other aspects of current research.

Conference themes 
1) Ethnomusicology and political activism 
2) Tourism 
3) Government and the Arts 
4) Applied/public sector Ethnomusicology 
5) Performance and Ethnomusicology 
Performance ensembles in the academy 
Performance and field research 

Abstract should be 350 words in length; and panel proposals should include
a 350-word description of the panel, accompanied by three or four
individual paper abstracts. Please make submissions by January 22, 2007 to for consideration by the MACSEM program committee. Please
specify what if any equipment you will need for your presentation.

Besides MACSEM papers and panels, the conference will include three
collaborative invited panels from the membership of MAFA and MACSEM, a
MAFA sponsored audio workshop, an introduction to Colonial Williamsburg's
interpretive programs, a shared concert/performance on Saturday evening,*
and a keynote presentation by Professor Barbara Hampton of the City
University of New York.

*Ensembles and solo performers who wish to participate in Saturday
evening's concert should contact Anne Rasmussen ( or Chris
Scales ( as soon as possible.
