Francisco J. García Fajer 'Lo Spagnoletto' and his Musical World

University of La Rioja (Spain), 19-20 April 2007


This two-day conference will focus on the musical world of the composer
García Fajer, who was probably the most disseminated Spanish author before
the end of the 19th century. Sources of his music have been preserved in
California, Chile, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Philippines and Portugal (apart
from virtually in all cathedrals and collegiate churches in mainland

The conference will be articulated around the following three themes:
*Text and dramaturgy in the theatrical repertory
*Dissemination and reception: from Europe to the colonies
*Religious music: issues of genres and performance practice

Proposals of 300 words are invited for 15-minute conference papers on any
subject relating to the life and work of García Fajer. Papers should be
delivered in one of the three following languages: Spanish, English or
Italian. The deadline for proposals is 16 February 2007.
