Informal call for contributors to panel on Latin American music
SLAS Conference 2007 (13, 14, 15 April, Newcastle University)
I am aiming to put together a panel for the SLAS conference next year on the theme of 'Music and the city in Latin America.' This theme intersects with two of the key topics of the conference: urban landscapes, and arts and cultural production. The conference organizers are hoping to attract a wide range of disciplinary, historical, and geographical perspectives, and this is also my intention for this panel. Topics from the fields of ethnomusicology, popular music studies, historical musicology, anthropology, etc would all be welcome, and I would like to include a broad range of genres, styles, and historical periods, unified by the theme of the city.
This is not a formal call for papers but rather an attempt to sound out interest from potential participants. If you think you might be interested in taking part, please get in touch: at this stage there is no need for a title or exact topic, just an expression of interest and a suggestion of the area that you might be interested in covering. Please feel free to discuss any ideas with me. This will help me to flesh out my idea for the panel and present an attractive proposal to SLAS.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who is interested,
