2009 Postgraduate Students' SMI Conference:

The second annual Postgraduate Conference of the Society for Musicology

Maynooth, Ireland

24th January 2009

The second annual Postgraduate Conference of the Society for Musicology in Ireland will take place at the Department of Music, NUI Maynooth on Saturday, 24th January 2009. The conference provides students with an opportunity to present their work in a supportive and encouraging environment.

The programme committee invites proposals for individual papers relating to any area of musicological research. Suggestions for themed sessions are also welcomed. Proposals should be in the form of an abstract of no more than 250 words, outlining the paper’s main objectives and research findings. Proposals for themed sessions should include a short abstract of approximately 150 words demonstrating the rationale for the session, as well as an abstract for each paper conforming to the above guidelines.

All papers will be limited to 20minutes’ duration, with time given over to questions from the floor afterwards. Submissions from all postgraduate research students are welcome. Presenters must, however, be fully paid-up members of SMI. For information on how to become a member go to: http://www.musicologyireland.com/membership/apply.html.

Proposals should be submitted by e-mail attachment to Aisling Kenny, (aisling.m.kenny@nuim.ie). The deadline for the receipt of abstracts is Wednesday, 1st October2008. Notification of a decision on submissions will be issued by mid-November and the full conference programme will be announced shortly thereafter.

Any queries regarding the conference should be submitted to Aisling Kenny at the address stated above. More information on the conference will follow on the SMI’s website www.musicologyireland.com in due course.
