The Call for Papers invited contributions on any aspect of English vocal
music from the previousC 150 years, including papers on individual
composers, and topics for discussion including: musical form and the
construction of Englishness; music, nationality and gender; music as
discourse; the regulation of text through music / the regulation of music
through text; the construction of `classical' and `nonclassical' musical
idioms; music and contemporary cultural theory; the treatment of music in
literature.
