Call for Papers Annual Meeting Midwest Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology Western Illinois University, April 4-6, 1997
Dr. Judith Becker, of the University of Michigan, will make the keynote presentation, entitled "Music and Trance: Speaking the Unspeakable," on Saturday, April 5th. The conference will begin on Friday, April 4th, at 7 p.m. with a concert by the WIU Mexican Marimba Ensemble, followed by a reception. On Saturday there will be paper sessions in the morning and early afternoon, followed by the keynote presentation and a short business meeting. Saturday evening's activities are still being planned. On Sunday there will be paper sessions from 9 a.m. to noon. All paper sessions will take place in the WIU Art Gallery. Proposals for papers, panels, and workshops on all aspects of ethnomusicology and related disciplines are invited. Papers in both the standard 20-minute format, with 10 minutes for discussion, and alternative formats are welcome. A block of double rooms has been reserved for conference attendees at the Macomb Inn, (309) 833-5511, at the flat rate of $45.00, which includes a continental breakfast. By the end of 1996, the Macomb Inn will be a Days Inn; the phone number will remain the same. Macomb is located 2-1/2 hours west of Urbana-Champaign.
