*GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONFERENCE*This conference will be held as a joint meeting with the EIGHTEENTH- CENTURY SCOTTISH STUDIES SOCIETY (ECSSS). The conference will include panels on all aspects of the long eighteenth-century, and papers will explore the art, history, economics, politics, architecture, music, fashions, literature, and cuisine of eighteenth-century urban life. Graduate students are welcome. Highlights of the meeting are expected to include Francois Furet on the meaning of the ancien regime; Duncan Macmillan on images of the city in eighteenth-century art; Joan F. Dejean on Moliere, censorship and the book trade; and excursions to the Newberry Library and with Bernadette Fort to the Art Institute of Chicago to view a recently acquired work by Jean-Baptiste Greuze. Participants must be members in good standing of either MWASECS or ECSSS at the time of the meeting; membership forms will be included in the registration materials.
