Call for Papers "Juxtapositions: The Harlem Renaissance and the Lost Generation" June 24-27, 1998 University of Cape Town, South Africa
The Cape American Studies Association and the Department of English of the University of Cape Town invite papers for this multi-disciplinary conference which focuses on the artists, thinkers, writers, and historians of the Harlem Renaissance and the post World War II Americans in Paris - Lost Generation. Linkages between the Harlem Renaissance in the United States and the Sophiatown and District Six generations; literary critique of the period; feminist responses; musical presentations; gangsterism and cinematic studies are all of interest. We invite historians, literary critics, creative writers, performers, social scientists, musicologists, and film critics to submit abstracts and titles no later than MARCH 30.
