Writing Southern Women's Lives
Macon, GA, October 1999

Call For Papers for Writing on Masks:
Women'ís Lives in the South

October 14-16, 1999
Wesleyan College
Macon, Georgia

We invite proposals, individual or panel, that discuss writing about womenís
lives in the South. We hope our conference will reflect a diversity of
experiences, both in terms of who southern women are (European American,
African American, Native American, etc.) and how their lives are written about
(poetry, fiction, drama, history, biography, autobiography, letters,
journalism). Of particular interest to us are proposals on the work of poet
and autobiographer Nikki Giovanni, who will be the featured speaker at the
conference; Georgia writers; and the relationship among women, writing, and
country music (conference participants will also have the opportunity to see a
play on the life of Patsy Cline).

One or more sessions will be devoted to undergraduate papers; please encourage
your students to submit proposals.

Send 500-word proposals or completed papers by March 15, 1999 to:
