JUBILATION, CELEBRATION, REVELATION:
JOY, TRIUMPH, AND EPIPHANY IN AMERICA


Submission deadline extended to September 15, 1999.

We are seeking panel and presentation proposals from a variety of
disciplinary perspectives illuminating and interpreting any triumphant,
joyful, or epiphanic moment in American history, politics, religion, art,
literature, music, theatre, cinema, athletics, etc.   We invite
explorations of such issues as the role any of these moments has played in
defining American culture; the significance of any of these moments in
community, state, or national history; and the effect any of these moments
has had on an individual or particular group.  We are also interested in
how these moments have been recorded and rendered by America's writers,
musicians, painters, sculptors, and filmmakers.

As usual, we are also interested in receiving presentation proposals on
other aspects of American Studies.

Interested individuals should submit a 250-word abstract by September 15,
1999.
