Concert Theatre Symposium

Concert Theatre Symposium

Embassy Theatre, Swiss Cottage, Central School of Speech & Drama, University of London, 27th May 2010, 10am-5pm

Details here:

We will explore and discuss a genre of contemporary theatre made by music instrumentalists today. This will be a rare opportunity to bring together professional musicians whose practice has converged with theatre making, and to offer them a formal space in which to demonstrate and to talk about the processes involved in making their work. Academy and industry provide occasions for theatre practitioners to share and disseminate collaborative/devised processes in the making of theatre that incorporates music. However the uniquely theatrical world opened by instrumentalists themselves is given few platforms on which to processes, performance and methods can be formally disseminated.

The day will feature sessions of lecture/demonstrations and a roundtable discussion by professionals. The event takes place in the Embassy Theatre, and will use the theatre as appropriate to full effect. We expect the attendees to this symposium to be drawn from academy and industry alike, especially from among instrumentalists, musicians, composers, designers, drama students and professional practitioners interested in collaborative/devised theatre.
