The Centro Studi Opera Omnia Luigi Boccherini of Lucca and the Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française, in collaboration with the Italian National Edition of the Complete Works of Pietro Antonio Locatelli, are pleased to invite submissions of proposals for the symposium «P.A. Locatelli and J.-M. Leclair: Legacy in the xixth Century», to be held in Bergamo, Fondazione MIA, Sala Locatelli, from Friday 17 until Sunday 19 October 2014.
The title of this conference takes its inspiration from a concert held in Kassel, 1728, at the court of Philipp von Hessen-Darmstadt, whose protagonists were Pietro Antonio Locatelli and Jean-Marie Leclair l’aîné: the first was said to have played like the devil; the latter like an angel.
In conjunction with the bicentenary of the death of Pietro Antonio Locatelli and Jean-Marie Leclair, this conference aims to celebrate the two composers as well as to deepen their legacy in the European Countries during the xixth Century. Furthermore, considering the influence of both musicians on the French musical scene, a special section of the conference will be dedicated to Pierre Baillot and the Parisian environment, to coincide with the bicentennial anniversary of the foundation of Baillot’s séances de musique de chambre.

The programme committee encourages submissions within the following areas, although other topics are also welcome:

  • Pietro Antonio Locatelli: New Perspectives of Research
  • Jean-Marie Leclair, l’ange du violon
  • Le goût français and Le goût italien in Eighteenth-Century Violin Music
