21 – 23 March 2014 | Huddersfield | England
Centre for Research in New Music| University of Huddersfield
Deadline for submissions is 17 January 2014
The Beyond Pythagoras Symposium seeks to explore new trends in the sonic arts and experimental electronic music. Over the past decade composers and sound artists have become increasingly interested in new tuning systems, post-acousmatic / post-digital aesthetics, the re-embodiment of sound production and listening. We seek all imaginative responses to the symposium title.
Keynote presentations will be given by Kaffe Matthews and Mark Fell who will also present new sound and installation works. The symposium will also feature the world premiere of Occam River V by Eliane Radigue for contrabass recorder and harp performed by Pia Palme and Rhodri Davies, and works featuring Jonny Axelsson (percussion).
The deadline for receipt of proposals is Friday, 17 January 2014. The aim of the symposium is to generate dialogue and discussion around the works and ideas presented. Therefore the duration for speakers will be 60 minutes (35-40 minutes presentation and 20-25 minutes discussion). We strongly encourage ‘piece and paper’ style presentations, which may include live performances, audio-visual work, artist statements, and formal papers. As well as presentations, we also accept the submission of sound and audio-visual works, sound installations submissions, exploring the conference theme, and works for percussion (and electronics) for Jonny Axelsson. Selected works will be performed in concerts and installed in the Creative Arts Building at the University.
Submissions can be made by uploading a zipped folder and providing the download link, or by direct email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
