Performance Studies Network Conference 2018, 5-8 July 2018, at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo, Norway.
Conference website: psn2018.org
The international Performance Studies Network comprises professional and amateur musicians, scholars working in a range of musicological disciplines (including music history, analysis, psychology, pedagogy, ethnomusicology and composition) and colleagues from the creative industries. The fifth international conference of the Performance Studies Network will be held at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Slemdalsveien 11, 0363 Oslo, Norway. The aim is to debate theories, methodologies and practices of performance, and to engage with increasingly diverse, interdisciplinary developments in the field in order to encourage a more global perspective on performance studies.
The Performance Studies Network Conference 2018 offers a rich combination of continuing the traditions of earlier PSN conferences with striking out into new geographical and cultural territory. Continuing and expanding the international scope of PSN, it also proposes an event with a distinctively Nordic flavour.
Having settled into accommodation in the centre of Oslo, delegates will find easy and quick transport links to the campus of the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH). There, they will be quickly be immersed in the opening conference discussions followed by a welcome reception and opening concert.
In the days that follow, the aim is to combine thematically-organised presentations with opportunities for networking in the social spaces adjacent to the Levin and Lindemann Halls of NMH. An expert panel and ‘town hall’ meeting will conclude the conference programme on the final day. Throughout the conference, there will be a range of live concert events, and a social highlight will be a barbeque laid on in the grounds of NMH, with the more formal Conference Dinner taking place the following day.
A detailed programme will be placed online early in 2018 following the review and selection process for presentation proposals. The programme for the Performance Studies Network 2018 will aim for a stimulating fusion of Nordic perspectives with issues that are of ongoing interest and concern for the worldwide network of scholars and artists in the field of performance studies.
