Oxford Conducting Institute International Conducting Studies Conference 2018

21-23 June, St Anne’s College, University of Oxford

Vocal and instrumental conductors and conducting are at the core of a multitude of musical endeavours across the globe, shaping musical practices and experiences in substantial ways. Scholars and practitioners have explored, and continue to explore, historical, philosophical, social and psychological aspects of conducting across a wide range of practices, and OCIICSC aims to bring together these diverse perspectives. OCIICSC 2018, following on from an extremely successful inaugural conference in 2016, is the second of what is hoped to be a bi-annual conference series that will develop and maintain an international network of conducting scholars.

The conference will be held at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford from the 21st-23rd June 2018. Guest speakers are still being confirmed.

Papers are encouraged from any discipline, including, but not limited to: musicology, ethnomusicology, music education, philosophy, psychology, anthropology and sociology as well as from practitioners. Some presentations from OCICSC 2016 and 2018 may be selected for publication in a special issue of Music Performance Research.
