Cross-European Summer School on Musical Ability

15-17 July 2020 in Finland, Italy, Poland and UK

This summer school will bring together expertise from scholars across Europe to address questions related to Musical Ability: What is musical ability? How do we assess it in research and education? What insights do different disciplines offer?

Attendees will participate in a local hub in Jyvaskula (Finland), Rome or Venice (tbc, Italy), Katowice (Poland) or Sheffield (UK). Presentations from experts working in the field of Music Psychology will be shared across the hubs, including discussion of theoretical and methodological aspects of research. Presentations in the morning are combined with working locally in groups on a research project in the afternoon.

Target audience:

Research training for MA and PhD students with an interest in cognitive and educational aspects of musical ability

Registration for the summer school is organised in two phases:

  • February – March: Submit expression of interest (motivation letter and brief CV)
  • April – May: Registration for the summer school after confirmation of a place
