Developing the Musician
Saturday 5 March 2011
Institute of Education
University of Reading
Keynote Speaker: Dr Helena Gaunt
This one day conference will include invited presentations and selected submissions from researchers on the theme of developing the musician. Now, more than ever, within the fields of music psychology and music education, there are competing and complementary perspectives on the notion of ‘the musician’ and what constitutes ‘development’. This conference seeks to explore these perspectives and to consider the possibilities for shared understanding. Papers are invited on related topics which could include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
· Concepts: established and/or emerging ideas
· Assessment: modes and contexts
· Legacies: evaluation of existing practice and/or research
· Language: its use within practice and/or assessment
· Technology: its impact on practice and/or research
Contributions are welcome from researchers at all levels and are especially encouraged from postgraduate students and researchers early in their careers. Submissions should show how the topic relates to the conference theme. In addition to spoken papers, the conference will include a poster display. Please send abstracts for spoken presentations (200 words) and for posters (100 words) by email to Dr Mary Stakelum (contact details below) on or before 11 January 2011.
