Mentoring for musicologists

This list contains mentoring initiatives that seek to support musicologists and musicians beyond and outside their own Higher Education institutions. While care is taken to keep it up to date, the maintainer, Annika Forkert, welcomes additions to the list to this email.

  • Royal Musical Association, mentoring scheme. The scheme supports musicologists (especially early-career), music practitioners and independent researchers with a background in music interested in developing their profile towards an academic career by pairing individual experienced mentors with mentees in the above groups. Open call for mentors and mentees throughout the year. Eligibility criteria and application form here.
  • EDIMS Network, peer support working group. Co-mentoring, wellbeing, identity. The working group offers academic and career development support to members of under-represented groups working in Music Higher Education. This will complement support currently offered by institutions and other professional Music organisations and will include advice on career development, job applications, interviews, CV writing, etc. Further information and contact here.
  • LGBTQ+ Music Study Group, queer mutual mentoring pilot scheme. Further information here.
